Old Skool JOTD March 23, 2010Been feeling crappy today. Between the dreary weather, some stress at the 9-to-5, etc., I needed a little pick me up today and “The World is Yours” by Nas has never failed me in that vein so that’s today’s jam.

I’m going to leave this at the top of the blog for the next couple days while the tourney is going.

My wife and I were watching the Fox 8 news Tuesday night. John Telich is doing the sports report and recapping the Cavs Monday night win in which they became the first team to win its 50th game this season and then JT says something that makes us both cringe.
The first team to get to 50 wins the last two seasons went on to win the championship
Our reaction to this was simultaneous and swift – “way to go dumb ass, now you jinxed it”. It’s Cleveland. We’re not just afraid to let ourselves think the Cavs can and will win the championship this season, but for the love of God don’t say it out loud. It’s like saying “Beetlejuice” three times fast.
But it got me to thinking about our “tortured” sports history and I began to realize, while it’s bad (and not hardly an original idea for a blog entry even), I actually think that it might be touch overrated. Look at the chronology of this thing. I’m only including teams here that the fans had bought into and truly believed could win a title or got to a championship game.

Joe Buck sucks at marriage tooJust in case any of you didn’t know, I truly loathe Joe Buck. Since sports is how I got my start in both amateur and professional broadcasting, when I see a smarmy talentless hack who is only employed because his dad was good at it let’s just say I take joy in anything that causes him pain and misery. You can call me jealous if you want to and you’d probably be right but even as an amateur I could broadcast this jamoke into the ground, yet sonny boy is the one with the million dollar contract.
Full story here:
Fox’s everywhere sportscaster Joe Buck and his wife of more than 15 years, Ann, have decided to “take a break”, according to his mother, Carole Buck, who spoke to reporter Jerry Berger.
Next up on the list of things Joe should consider taking “a break” from would be “speaking” and “breathing”, not necessarily in that order. The only thing that would make this story better would be if Ann’s reason for the break was that she needed the time to be at Artie Lange’s bedside to assist his recovery.
